Many of the wonderful volunteers who give 2 hours a week to tutor children
were celebrated tonight by the St. Henry de Osso Family Project, at a dinner at
First State Bank in Uvalde. Staff members prepared and served a brisket dinner
for them, and presented gifts (garden decorations in beautiful homemade bags) as
a token of appreciation for the volunteers' sacrifice of time and service. Sr.
Clarice Suchy, stj graciously provided music to complete the atmosphere.
Volunteers were encouraged to share some of their stories, and many told
how their tutoring experience had touched their own hearts. Some former
volunteers were able to be present, as well as some family members, who
themselves had also sacrificed much for the sake of the tutoring. After a
game of discovering the hidden treasures in purses and wallets, certificates
were presented to all the volunteers. It was a great evening of sharing and appreciating
the gift given by those who have discovered the joy of giving of themselves for
the sake of God's littlest
ones.
