IN MEMORY
Sr. Genoveva of Mary Immaculate Espinosa Ayala, STJ, a sister of the Society of St. Teresa of Jesus, died in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday, May 23, 2008 of cardiac arrest, at the age of 91. Sister Genoveva was born in Dallas, Texas to migrant parents from Mexico City, Mexico. She and one of her sisters entered the Teresian community. Sr. Genoveva entered on February 15, 1945 and made her first profession of vows on August 18, 1947 in San Antonio, Texas. Throughout her life Sister served the Lord as a dedicated sacristan, seamstress, cook and “homemaker” for the rest of the community. She enjoyed maintaining order and cleanliness in the convent. Although she suffered many years with the pains of arthritis she continued helping with the needs of the community, far beyond what was asked or expected of her. She took pride in reminding the community that all things had their place and every space had a purpose. Her devotion and spiritual life gave her the strength to faithfully attend all the community activities until she left for what was expected to be just a short stay in the hospital. During her time in the hospital she became weaker and the Lord blessed her with a peaceful death, sparing her the suffering of a long illness.
