In Memory

Sr. Catherine Batista Serrano, STJ
, a sister of the Society of St. Teresa of Jesus, completed her journey on Earth and went to be with God on January 25, 2007, in San Antonio,
Texas.  Born on February 13, 1910 to Francisco Serrano and Mariana Batista de Serrano in the city of Guantanamo, Cuba, she was the seventh child of the large family of five brothers and seven sisters.  She is survived by her sister Pura Serrano Mc Nay and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Sister Cathy entered the Society of St. Teresa of Jesus on January 25, 1938 in San Antonio, Texas.  For forty years she dedicated herself to teaching elementary grade students.  She was known for being an excellent primary teacher.  In Texas, sister taught in San Antonio and in Uvalde.   In Louisiana, she taught in New Orleans, Jennings, and Metairie.  For a short time she also taught in Fresno, California.  After she retired, Sr. Cathy often found herself back in the classroom substituting or sharing some art project.  A lover of the Arts, she enjoyed oil painting and visiting the many galleries on Royal St. in New Orleans.

Monday, January 29, 2007, friends are invited to the Rosary at 9 AM and the funeral mass at 11:30 AM at St. Teresa’s Convent, 138 Fair Ave., San Antonio.
