Sr.
Catherine Batista Serrano, STJ, a sister of the Society of St. Teresa
of Jesus, completed her journey on Earth and went to be with God on January 25,
2007, in San Antonio,
Texas. Born on
February 13, 1910 to
Francisco Serrano and Mariana Batista de Serrano in the city of Guantanamo,
Cuba, she was the seventh child of the large family of five brothers and seven
sisters. She is survived by her sister Pura Serrano Mc Nay and numerous nieces,
nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Sister Cathy entered the Society of St.
Teresa of Jesus on January 25, 1938 in San Antonio,
Texas. For forty years she dedicated herself to teaching
elementary grade students. She was known for being an excellent primary
teacher. In Texas,
sister taught in San Antonio and in Uvalde. In Louisiana, she taught in New
Orleans, Jennings, and Metairie. For a short time she also taught in Fresno,
California.
After she retired, Sr. Cathy often found herself back in the classroom
substituting or sharing some art project. A lover of the Arts, she enjoyed oil
painting and visiting the many galleries on Royal St. in New Orleans.

friends are invited to the Rosary at 9 AM and the funeral mass at 11:30 AM at
St. Teresa’s Convent, 138 Fair Ave.,
San Antonio.
