IN MEMORY
Sr. Maria del Carmen Guzman, STJ of the Society of St. Teresa
of Jesus, died on August 7, 2008 at St. Teresa's Convent, San Antonio at the age
of 72, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Havana, Cuba, on October
6, 1935, the youngest of three children. Her brother, Francisco Guzman,
S.J. preceded her in death and her sister, Josefina G. Arrojas, lives in Miami,
FL. Sr. Carmenlina entered the Society of St. Teresa of Jesus in the
Teresian school in Havana in 1952, and made her Novitiate at St. Teresa's
Academy in San Antonio. She served as teacher and catechist for many years
in Miami, New Orleans, and in Uvalde and San Antonio, Texas. In later
years she was the Assistant Director of the Archdiocesan Catechetical Center in
San Antonio, and the coordinator of St. Teresa's Convent. at. St.
Teresa's, Sr. Carmelina cared for the elderly and infirm Sisters for twelve
years, with grace and warm affection. Her wonderful sense of humor
together with her good heart and great dedication to the Lord will be long
remembered and greatly missed by all who knew her.
