Sr.
Ana Poblet, STJ, of the
Society of St. Teresa of Jesus, went to heaven on February 16, 2011 at St.
Teresa's Convent, San Antonio, at the age of 97, after a long illness.
Born in Havana, Cuba, on September 1, 1913, she was the youngest of four
children. Sr. Anita, as she was known, would have celebrated 70 years in
the Society of St. Teresa of Jesus this year, having entered the Society
in Havana in December of 1941, making her Pre-Novitiate and Novitiate in
San Antonio; it was there that she made her profession of perpetual vows
in 1949. From the time of her first profession of vows, Sr. Anita began a
long life of service to others, in San Antonio for many years, but also in
California, Louisiana, and Nicaragua. In 1970 she returned to San Antonio,
where she spent the rest of her days.
Wherever Sr.
Anita served, she was known for her kindness in taking care of the sick
sisters, with the utmost delicacy and total dedication. Always a hard
worker, she went out of her way to be of humble service to anyone who
might need her. But it was the joy and charity with which she lived that
endeared Sr. Anita to others; all who knew her were touched by her warm
hospitality and cheerful spirit. We thank God for her simple life lived in
the most profound way: in loving and joyful obedience to God and service
to all.
