From November 23-26, 2005 the
Teresian Sisters assembled in Covington, Louisiana
to receive the report on the XV General Chapter and for the Provincial Chapter
of Elections. We were privileged to have our Superior General, Sr. Carmen
Bartolome, with us during these days.
On Wednesday the
sisters received a report on the XV General Chapter. Srs. Isabel Ordono, Gina
Geraci and Dolores Aviles each shared some of their own experience of the
Chapter. Sr. Isabel then presented a power point presentation on the
different provinces and challenges that were discussed during the Chapter.
The sisters received the document of the Chapter, “Behold, I Make All
Things New” which outlined the goals and challenges for the coming six
years. Each community also received a copy of the new Constitutions
which were approved by the Chapter and the Formation Project and Teresian
Educational Plan. After a day of sharing and reflection, the sisters
were both challenged and energized to continue to live with a passionate
love for God and humanity. Each sister received a picture frame with
the Samaritan woman and the Good Samaritan as a reminder of our need to
drink often of the living water that we may be the compassionate presence of
God in the world. |

On Thursday the
sisters enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner and celebrated the many
blessings we have received this year. In the afternoon several of the sisters
from out of state went to New Orleans to see Mercedes Prat Convent on Mirabeau
Ave. which was flooded as a result of Katrina. They also toured several of the
severely damaged sections of New Orleans and Slidell. |

On Friday the sisters
spent the day in retreat in preparation for the election of the new provincial
team the following day. In the afternoon they met in small groups to share
their reflections from the day and to discuss challenges that the new provincial
team would have to face.
On Saturday morning,
after a mass of the Holy Spirit the Provincial Chapter of Elections was
convened. Sr. Carmen Bartolome presided over the Chapter. Sr. Carmen spoke to
the sisters and encouraged us to be open to the Spirit as we reflected on who
would lead the province for the next three years. After a time for prayer and
reflection the sisters gathered together again to elect our provincial
coordinator. Sr. Isabel Ordono was elected provincial. After lunch the sisters
gathered again in an atmosphere of prayer to elect the councilors. Sr. Angeles
Sendin was elected as vice-provincial. Srs. Gina Geraci, Marina Aranzabal, and
Dolores Aviles were also elected to the provincial team. The new team was
installed at an evening prayer service which was followed by a celebration in
the cafeteria.

As the sisters
departed to their places of ministry each went with a new sense of God doing
something new in us. We also
are challenged and committed to living our
passionate love for God and humanity in a deeper way.
