INSPIRATION AND FOUNDATION
Praised Be Jesus and St. Teresa –
Tortosa
Passion Sunday, April 2, 1876. Society of St. Teresa of Jesus
Purpose:
The regeneration of the world, especially Spain, through the
education of women according to the spirit of St. Teresa of Jesus.
Does God want it? Does Jesus
want it? Does St. Teresa want it?
|
It seems so. First by the
immense, radical and universal good which would be achieved forming teachers
according to the spirit of St. Teresa. In ten years the entire country of Spain
would be renewed. A good head, a good heart, everything good. And, with the
grace of God, this would not be too difficult because:
● My heart tells me that the idea of Tarragona is
the beginning of providential things. Teacher: my first wish and sorrow...
● It would be the complement of the association of
Catholic Youth. Oh, how well they would work together; how many miracle we
would see! How soon would the whole world and especially Spain, be renewed.
■ 1876, June 23 Feast of
the Sacred Heart, Initial Commitment
In Tarragona, in the
Church of Nuestra Senora de la Ensenanza, after making the spiritual exercises,
nine excited young women committed themselves to live in community, observing
the Rules of the new Society of St. Teresa of Jesus under the direction of its
Founder. This act constituted the beginning of the life of the Society.
■
1979, January 1, First Profession
Chapel
of St. Paul, Tarragona. The first eight sisters pronounced their first vows for
three years. The Society began the New Year as a religious Institute,
canonically established and of diocesan jurisdiction.

It came to life.
There was a tremor
of fragile life, of an uncertain future
promises. Was it a flower?
No, only a half-open bud.
Will it live? If it is a work of God,
it will advance
even though discreet opinion cry out,
ungrateful oracles, that women
are not good for gigantic enterprises,
and it was God’s work! One day
the bud opened. Its name: Society
One and multiple joined forces
one motto one mission
a field without frontiers...
