VI. RENEWAL AND
SANCTIFICATION 1977-2001
From 100 to 125 years of the Society
|
My name
is Society
Because
I do not walk alone
I
follow Jesus and I go with you
I want
to walk with everyone.
In this
new fruitful space
I want
to share the story
I want
to dialogue openly
To
knead with love
The
Faith and Culture of each day.
My name
is Society
With
the savor of presence,
Of
nearness. I am a woman
My name
is Teresa
I have
a spouse
My
surname is “of Jesus”
I
embraced solidarity like poverty
And I
decided to beget thousands of children
With
the liberating face of the Kingdom of God.
My name
is Society
I was
born in Spain and since my childhood
I
dream of adventure in America
And I
got accustomed to the sea,
I knew
that those Indians are not worth.
Much
nor are they worth little!
I
discovered in the land seeds of the Word
And I
gave them the liberating mirror of the Gospel. |

My name is Society,
I love
education, I love children.
I have
a preference for little ones,
I know
that nothing can be obtained without sacrifice.
Do not
forget; I am a woman,
Some
nights I dream I am indigenous.
My feet
bare, my hair loose,
My face
wrinkled, my soul open
To
every breath of the Spirit.
My name
is Society of St. Teresa of Jesus.
I was
not born yesterday nor will I die tomorrow.
I have
crossed the gate of two centuries
The
dream of the Prophet fulfill 120 years of traveling
I tell
you that today with humble daring I shape
The
hard record of the process I have lived
It is
not a change of programs that seek
It is a
deeper challenge, more commitment.

|
As in all human
existence, there was no lack of difficulties and worries during this period of
our history. Before focusing on the festivities that brought us
deep joys, we
want to remember the suffering caused by the earth-quake in Mexico, D.F., which
destroyed one of the buildings of the Instituto Cultural and
caused the death of
18 individuals. Our anguish over the notice of the war in Angola, and the
kidnapping during several months of a group of sisters,
the destruction in
several schools caused by natural phenomena, as in Nicaragua, Chile and others
that we kept in our hearts and which are a part of our life.
CELEBRATIONS
The Centennials and
Diamond Jubilees are multiplied during this time, as it is natural. We rejoice
and thank God for each one of them, but we cannot include all
of them in this
limited space.

Pope John Paul II officially closed the celebration in Avila and after this
ceremony, he stayed at our Novitiate. He has previously stayed in our House
in Puebla after the CELAM reunions, and would later be in our School in Rome
on Feb 3, 1991. |

As we approach the
present, our life loses historical value since it lacks the necessary
perspective to analyze events which have just become the past. Because of
this, we will just make a passing reference to only some of the external
events. |

Jubilee and
Millennium:
With the entire humanity, we have lived the beginning of the third
Millennium of our history; with the Church we have celebrated the Jubilee of
the Year 2000 as a time of grace, conversion and time of the Lord. |
2001: The Society becomes 125 years old
|
A simple and deep felt
Celebration that, on other occasions, arouse gratitude, move us to rejoice
and strengthen the feeling of family, a conviction of sharing a common
charism that unifies our diversities.
United in the spirit, we
have celebrated in all our communities, but above all, we have reunited in
Tortosa, home of our Founder, on June 23, and in Tarragona the birthplace of
the Society, the 24th, with the acts that were recorded in the
previous Bulletin.
Recording the history of
the past has brought us to the present with grateful hearts. To love and to
assume the present moment is necessary if we want Good News for the entire
world. Only this will help us to become engrossed into the future with
hope. |
 |
You have not only a glorious history to record and tell,
but also a great history to build.
